January 15
5:33 pm, The People’s Pope arrived at Villamor Airbase Pasay City for his 5 day
state /pastoral visit, as the church bells all over the country
simultaneously chime. Pope Francis, or Lolo Kiko of which many Filipinos call
him was all smiles as he walked down from the Sri Lankan airplane A340. Our
President Noynoy Aquino stood waiting together with some of the archbishops and
cabinet members and kissed the pope’s ring which is known as a sign of respect,
some even gave gifts for the pope. He spent for about half an hour at the
airbase before riding his pope mobile for the motorcade and to the Apostolic
Nunciature where he will be staying. As the motorcade begins Pope Francis stood
up and wave to all the people who waited for him all day, smile never left his
face as people raised their hands waving handkerchiefs and most raised their
hands to capture a photo of the pope even though the pope mobile travels fast.
January 16,
2015 Pope Francis went to Malacañang, walking down to enter the palace children
and babies were held to be blessed by the pope, some hugged him, and others
were kissed by Pope.
“Signing the Malacañang guestbook is a customary activity for any
visiting head of state. Pope Francis is a the head of city-state Rome, thereby
making his visit to the Philippines a state visit, apart from it being a
pastoral visit.”
After his
visit in Malacañang Palace, he head over to Manila Cathedral to hold a mass
which is especially for all religious leaders, nun and priest. “Do you love me,
then..” as he begin his homily and was cut off when the crowd says “Yes” and he
laughed and replied “Thank you, thank you”. In times like this we can see how
he is close to people’s hearts, he never got tired of smiling and waving to the
crowd, he chooses to be close to people, he also give gifts, he is close to the
poor and needy, he is close to our hearts, he is Pope Francis, the people’s
pope.
